Handan Kaya, whose identity as a male was not understood until death and who wasknown by the name Şükran Aktaş in official records, left behind a mysterious subjectfor their family and acquaintances after death. Known as Handan Kaya, appearing in records as Şükran Aktaş, and actually born as Nail Çakır, they convinced everyone whothought they knew them—spouse, family, acquaintances—that they were female untildeath.
They even worked as a nurse at Çapa State Hospital, building their entire life on this lie. The truth only emerged after their death.
